Last Words.

A little while and he who writes,
With silent voice and pen laid down,
In quiet earth shall lie.

Inspiring Saviour, unto Thee
My work I give in fealty,-

Thy life I have, and seek:

Accept this sacrifice, O Lord;

Weak am I,-but if therefore strong,

O keep me ever weak!"

I

One more word, and I have done. I hope I have not written a line in these pages that shall leave a stain behind, or shall be a matter of regret in my last hours. have put my pen through many a passage which, though true, too true, might nevertheless lead many a youth to do what I would fain have him avoid. And, finally, let me remind all who have glanced over these brief reminiscences of my chequered and eventful life, that—

"We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not breaths;
In feelings, not in figures on a dial.

We should count time by heart-throbs. He most lives
Who thinks most-feels the noblest-ACTS THE BEST."
