SECOND TO NONE IN VALUE FOR EXCELLENCE AND CHEAPNESS. The "SCORER" FIELD or MARINE GLASS, so called for its efficiency for Scoring at Rifle Practice, is without a rival for value. The height of the instrument, when extended for use, is 62 inches; when closed up, ready to be put in its case, it measures in height 5 inches; extreme width across both Object Glasses, 4 inches; size of Object Glasses, 14 inches. The Bars and Focussing Tubes of the instrument are very strongly made of Black Enamelled Brass. The Body is covered with Black Morocco, sewed so as to prevent its readily getting detached by damp. THE relation of the Church to the Sabbath School is a theme often discussed at teachers' conferences, and we have occasionally given space for what may be regarded as the views of intelligent teachers. It would be interesting were we able also to give, in a formal manner, or in so many brief sentences, the voice of the churches on the same subject. Some 1 earnest teachers still complain of their isolated position as workers for the Church. They express the hope that ere long they may enjoy a much larger share of the help and practical sympathy which deacons, elders, ministers, and even Church Courts could easily extend to them. We have not at hand, at the moment we write, the formal "findings " upon the subject of any of the churches, except that of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland; but, its terms cannot be mistaken, they are very clear and satisfactory. So, also, is the speech given by Mr. Dickson, convener, when submitting his annual report,—an address which was much applauded in the course of delivery; and this is a fact which is not insignificant. The "deliverance" and his speech, taken together, form gratifying evidence that the interests of the young are being cared for now by the churches, in a way that was not the case even a few years ago. This, no doubt, has been brought about partly by the united action of the teachers, through their National Convention, pressing upon Church Courts the claims of the young, to some special recognition in the ordinary services of the sanctuary, and the necessity of congregations doing something for the better accommodation of their Sabbath Classes. The responses to the injunction and recommendation of the Assembly may not have
