And once more beloved, observe the TENDERNESS OF THE MOVEMENT-"He touched him," he did not authoritatively command him or sternly rebuke the wanderer, but touched him. Oh! that sweet loving touch, a gentle movement springing from a heart of compassion and love; surely such a touch must melt the heart, and bring one to his senses, causing a springing to the feet and a readiness for increased activity in the divine life. Zechariah tells of corn that makes the young men cheerful; by which we understand the sustaining influence of Divine grace. Again, Jesus is compared to the bread of life, and the fountain head of living water: do you want a sip of this water, beloved? read Isaiah xii. 2, "Behold God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation: therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation." might also dwell upon the sweet luscious grapes of Eschol, those sweet foretastes of the heavenly Canaan. But our limits compel us to come to our 3rd division, the assertion here made, “The journey is too great for thee." way is so fraught with difficulties; the
way to heaven so lined with menacing
foes, and it is such a narrow way, that
there seems no means of shaking them
off, they touch the very shield, they are
so formidable, assume so many shapes,
and as fast as one is vanquished another
presents himself to glory in the weakness
of the trembling one; and then there are
the more subtle foes, who creep into
the very heart, and many that have had
long lodgment there, are not so easily
turned out. True, at the spur of first
starting, they seem to have been van-
quished, but they soon show their hideous
heads to the distress of the child of God,

Weeping widows, and the Lord's afflicted children, yes, ye all know what weariness by the way means; but Jesus having Himself been weary while passing through the same wilderness, can well sympathize with you in all your heart-felt emotions, and feelings. Beloved, we do feel that there is such a soul-stirring sweetness in this subject, that it is impossible for us to lay down our pen without promising ourselves, if God will, the gratification of resuming it; and the sweetness seems to our mind to be conveyed in the fact, that Jesus meets us at every turn of the contemplation. That could we go over the ground again, we should have to sign every sentiment-Jesusand this is to our mind just what the Christian wants, that precious name ever before him, and to grow increasingly suspicious of everything that has not this sweet word attached to it-JESUS. now, one thought more-this journey betokens a passage from one place to another place-how sweet then to think of the journey's end. We believe with the Rev. J. West of Winchelsea, "that the majority of God's people are cowards when they come to die," even though they have gained glorious glimpses of heaven on their way; but blessed be God, it alters not the fact, that the end is secured-it is all right.

As when the weary traveller gains,

The height of some o'erlooking hill,
His hearts revives as cross the plains,
He sees his home, though distant still.
As he surveys the lovely spot,

He scorns the span that lies between,
His past fatigues are all forgot,
Because his journey's end is seen.

THE PILGRIM'S SONG:

HERE HAVE WE NO CONTINUING CITY, BUT WE SEEK ONE TO COME."...Heb. xiii. 14.

My rest is in heaven, my rest is not here;

Then why should I tremble, when trials are near?
Be hush'd, my sad spirit, the worst that can come,
But shortens thy journey, and hastens thee home.

It is not for me to be seeking my bliss,
And building my hopes in a region like this:
I look for a city which hands have not piled-
I pant for a country by sin undefiled.

The thorn and the thistle around me may grow-
I would not lie down e'en on roses below:

I ask not my portion, I seek not a rest,
Till I find them for ever on Jesus' loved breast.

Afflictions may press me, they cannot destroy,
One glimpse of his love turns them all into joy;
And the bitterest tears, if He smile but on them,
Like dew in the sunshine, grow diamond and gem.

Let trial and danger my progress oppose,
They can only make heaven more sweet at the close;
Come joy, or come sorrow, whate'er inay befall,
A home with my God will make up for it all.

With a scrip on my back, and a staff in my hand,
I march on in haste, through an enemy's land,
The road may be rough, but it cannot be long,
And I'll smooth it with hope, and cheer it with song.

THE THEORIES OF GEOLOGISTS RESPECTING THE CREATION OF THE WORLD, OVERTHROWN BY THE PLAIN TESTIMONY OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURE.

THE SCRIPTURE RECORD OF THE OLD, OR ANTIDELUVIAN WORLD; OF THE WORLD THAT NOW IS; AND OF THAT WHICH IS TO COME.

As there will be a restitution of all things, a new heaven, and a new earth, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his prophets, since the world began, it becometh all who are taught of God, to give unto the Lord the glory, and honour, and power due unto His Name, for His perfection of, as well as for His creation of all things; for all His works praise Him, as they show forth His eternal power and Godhead.

When the Lord would impress upon our minds, any important testimony, we find it repeated again and again: and it may be, that we be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the apostles, and of the commandment of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, that there shall be persons that, when they know God, will not glorify Him as God; but will become vain in their imaginations, and deny His three-fold testimony, of His creation of the universe, and of all things visible and invisible, in six days.

The Lord calls the seventh day His Sabbath; for after the record of the creation of all things, in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth days, the Scripture saith, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day, God ended his work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day, from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because, that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made." And God spake all these words, saying, "Remember the Sabbath-day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates." And as the six days of labour mean six natural days, so, the six days of creation-work mean six natural days; for it is immediately added, "In six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and sea, and all that in

them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the seventh day and hallowed it" (Exod. xx. 1, 8— 11).

There is no difference in the duration or length of the seventh day (which was to be kept holy) from the duration or length of any of the other days of creation-work; for "the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Verily, my Sabbaths ye shall keep; for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. SIX DAYS may work be done; but in the SEVENTH is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbathday, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in SIX DAYS the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed” (Exod. xxxi. 12-17).

When an honest man is seeking to obtain credit to what he saith, as an undoubted truth, he often affirms the same thing; and as it would be accounted as unjust not to believe what he saith to be true: so the GOD of TRUTH, that cannot lie, has so often asserted the fact, of His creation of all things in six days, that no one, but presumptuous persons, would make the WORD of GOD of none effect, by their traditions or philosophical opinions. The Holy Spirit testifies that the old world, so called in the 2nd of Peter, ii. 5, perished (apóleto), or was destroyed by water, as the present world will be by fire. And that there would be persons saying, all things continue as from the beginning of the creation, willingly ignorant of the destruction of the old world by the Hood. And so ignorant

are Geologists of the old world, and of the infinite power of God, who spake, and it was, &c. (Psalm xxxiii. 6-9), that they make the GOD of TRUTH a liar by their daring assertions, that each of the days mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis was, in reality, a
