HIS new edition of Bronson's Short History of American Lit-
erature has been thoroughly revised and greatly enlarged. The
section on the literature from 1870 to 1918 contains illumi-

nating characterizations of the work of this period, and a just evaluation of scores of books and authors that are of present interest. The extracts from the works of nineteenth-century authors more than double the number of pages devoted to this section. The Bibliography and Reading Lists have been brought down to date.
