At the same meeting, carrying 11st. 10lbs., and ridden by Mr. Kennedy, he won the Corinthian Stakes of 10 sovs. each, with 25 added, at three heats, running a dead heat for the second with Mr. Armstrong's Star of Erin, 4 yrs., 11st. 4lbs.; and also beating Lord Waterford's Wexford, 4 yrs., 12st. 7lbs., Mr. Willington's Recompence, 6 yrs., 11st. 7lbs., Mr. Burgh's Grisette, 6 yrs., 11st. 2lbs., and Mr. Chichester's Miss Hybla, 6 yrs., 10st. 3lbs.

The Switcher then crossed the water for the Eglinton Park Meeting, where, in the name of Lord Howth, and ridden by Captain Williams, he won, at 10st. 5lbs., the Blythswood Handicap of 5 sovs. each, with 50 added, beating Lord Waterford's Henry, 6 yrs., 10st. 12lbs., Lord Eglinton's Fitz-James, 4 yrs., 10st. 3lbs., Mr. Wauchope's Erato, 6 yrs., 10st. 3lbs., and Sir J. Boswell's Interest, 5 yrs., 9st. Won by a length.

At the same meeting, ridden by Mr. Hope Johnstone, he won the Curraghmore Cup of 10 sovs. each, with 100 added, beating Lord Waterford's Firefly easily.

At the same meeting, carrying the top weight 12st. 6lbs., he was not placed for the forced handicap, won by Captain Boyd's Lara, aged, 12st. 4lbs.; Lord Waterford's Smike, 6 yrs., 11st. 12lbs. (second. Seven others also ran.

On his return to Ireland, The Switcher, in the Curragh, September Meeting, carrying 12st. 6lbs., ran second to Mr. Whaley's Tickle-myFancy, 3 yrs., 9st. 9lbs., for the Amateur Corinthians. Four others also ran.

At the same meeting, carrying 12st. 8lbs., he was not placed for the Corinthians, won by Lord Waterford's Arcanus, 6 yrs., 12st. 2lbs.; his lordship's Smike, aged, 12st. 2lbs. second. Three others also ran.

At the Curragh, October Meeting, carrying 8st. 3lbs., he ran second to Lord Waterford's King Dan, 5 yrs., 8st. 10lbs., for the Kirwans. Mr. Armstrong's Star of Erin, 4 yrs., 7st. 10lbs., also ran.

At the same meeting, carrying 8st. 3lbs., he was beaten by King Dan, at 9st. 2lbs., for the challenge of the Kirwans.

At the same meeting, ridden by Murphy, he won the Royal Whip, with 100 added, beating King Dan (2) and Mr. Armstrong's Beatrice; Mr. Salvin's Alice Hawthorne and Mr. Irwin's Warp not placed.

At Maze, he ran second for the Queen's Plate, won by Mr. Ferguson's Fireaway. Mr. Martin's Croydon, Mr.'s Varnish, and Mr. Maxwell's Johnny also ran.

At the same meeting, he won the Railway Plate, beating Croydon, Varnish, and four others.

The same day, he was beaten for the Hunters' Stakes by Mr. Wilton's Gamecock.

In 1846, The Switcher ran second to Mr. Murphy's St. Leger, for the weight-for-age steeple-chase at Lucan. Mr. Nangle's Sam

Slick, Captain Dyson's Hawksworth, Mr. Conway's Tom Steele, and Captain Grant's Daphne, also started. Seven to four against The

Switcher. Won by six lengths.

At the same meeting, the same day, ridden by Wynne, and carrying 11st. 11lbs., he won in two heats the handicap of 5 sovs. each, 2 ft., with 40 added, beating Mr. Keen's Foxhunter, 6 yrs., 10st. 7lbs., Mr. Healy's Nydia, 6 yrs., 10st. 8lbs., Mr. Sharkey's Isaac, aged, 10st. 12lbs., Mr. Nugent's Merlin, 4 yrs., 10st.; and the following, distanced in the first heat-Captain Dyson's The Hawk, aged, 12st., Mr. O'Brien's The Wandering Jew, 4 yrs., 11st. 2lbs., Mr. Murphy's Canary, 4 yrs., 11st., Mr. Doyle's De Freyne, aged, 10st. 9lbs., Mr. Nugent's Mischief, aged, 10st. 9lbs., Mr. Kirkpatrick's Clinker, aged, 10st. 8lbs., Mr. Thompson's The Deacon, 4 yrs., 10st., Mr. Dillon's The Light-ofother-Days, 3 yrs., 9st., and Mr. Rogers's f. by Leander, 3 yrs., 8st. 12lbs.: 6 to 4 agst. At Dundalk, ridden by Wynne, he won the Steeple-chase Sweepstakes of 10 sovs. each, h. ft., with 50 added, in two heats, beating Mr. Morland's The Ticket; distanced in the second heat.

At Liverpool, he ran second to Mr. Mostyn's The Premier, for Lord Sefton's Plate. Mr. Binnie's Apparition, Hon. E. M. Mostyn's L'Hirondelle colt, Lord Chesterfield's The Poor Soldier, Sir J. Gerard's Camelia, and Mr. Bell's Rosina also started. 5 to 1 agst. The Switcher, who was beaten by two lengths.

The same day, carrying 12st. 4lbs. (and 5lbs. extra), he ran third for the Grand National Steeple-chase. Won by Mr. Adams's Pioneer, 6 yrs., 11st. 12lbs.; Mr. Tilbury's Culverthorpe, aged, 11st. 4lbs. second. Nineteen others also started, for whose names and weights we refer the reader to the last edition of the "Steeple-chase Calendar," page 76. High odds against The Switcher, who, notwithstanding his previous race over the flat, was only beaten three lengths from the second.

At Hooton Park, ridden by Captain Peel, he won the Steeple-chase Sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, h. ft., with 100 added, beating Lord Waterford's Firefly (2), Lord Glamis's Eugene Sue (3), Lord Maidstone's The Kicker, and Lord Waterford's Regalia. Won by a length. The Switcher, we then find, passed from Lord Howth's hands to Lord Glamis, now Lord Strathmore, who brought him out, to begin with, for the B. C. Fifty Pound Plate at Newmarket, when he was beaten fairly off; Mr. Shelley's Maynooth first, Lord G. Bentinck's Miss Elis second, Mr. W. S. Stanley's Keppel third, Lord Eglinton's Lycurgus fourth, and The Switcher last.

The Switcher was now put by till the autumn, when, carrying 11st. 7lbs., and ridden by his owner, he won the Worcestershire Handicap Steeple-chase of 20 sovs. each, h. ft., and only 5 if declared, with 100 added, beating Captain Barnet's Marengo, 10st. 7lbs. (2), Mr. 0. Higgins's Pioneer, 12st. 1lbs. (3), Mr. Preston's Brunette, 12st. 8lbs. (4), Hon. O. Ward ns. Salute, 11st. 7lbs., Mr. Tilbury's Culverthorpe, 11st. 5lbs., Mr. Moseley's Jerry, 11st., Mr. C. Smith's Tramp, 10st. 7lbs., Mr. Jones ns. Sparta, 10st. 4lbs., Mr. Clifton's Mahomet, 9st. 11lbs., Mr. Bretherton's Little John, 10st., and Mr. Stapleford's Gilrag, 11st. Five to one against The Switcher, who won cleverly by a length.

At Newport Pagnell, ridden by his owner, and carrying 11st. 10lbs., he won the Handicap Steeple-chase Sweepstakes of 25 sovs. each, 15 ft., with 100 added, beating Mr. Tilbury's Culverthorpe, 10st. 10lbs. (2), Mr. Bevill's Lattitat, 10st. 12lbs. (3), Mr. Lambden's Discount, 11st. 9lbs. Beville's Lattitat, 10st. 10lb.; Mr. Preston's Brunette, 12st. 5lb, second; and Mr. R. H. Jones's b. g. by Glaucus, 10st. 10lb., third. Seven to two against The Switcher.

The above performances prove The Switcher to be one of the stoutest and gamest horses ever known. Like many good ones, though, he requires well "paying" for his work, being, in fact, a most terrible slug. Whoever has the honour to pilot The Switcher, will find his riding and driving abilities taxed to their utmost.
