THE object of this little volume is to place before the young reader a clear and popular detail of that interesting portion of Spanish Story, which comprehends the period of the Muslim rule in the Peninsula. With a narrative of incidents so brilliant as to resemble more the inventions of fiction, than the sober realities of history, is interwoven a concise view of the fulfilment of a few of the leading prophecies regarding the Arabs—a notice of the improvements introduced by them into Europe-and an account of the rise and progress of the kingdoms of CHRISTIAN Spain. To make the whole more distinct, a Chronological Table is added, exhibiting the parallel reigns of the Christian and Muslim Sovereigns of the Peninsula, until their principalities ultimately merged in the united kingdom of Castile and Aragon.
