Homosexual Behavior Among Males: A Cross-cultural and Cross Species InvestigationHawthorn Books, 1967 - 349 頁 "A subject beset by misunderstanding, prejudice, repression, stereotyping, and dishonesty--male homosexual behavior is studied thoroughly and objectively for the first time in this book by an eminent psychotherapist. On the basis of the Kinsey report and other behavioral studies, Dr. Churchill denies that 'the homosexual' can be defined, since homosexual behavior occurs to some extent in such a wide variety of persons. Most psychiatric studies, according to Dr. Churchill, deal in stereotypes, since they are concerned only with mentally disturbed individuals. The only valid approach to the subject is to distinguish degrees of homosexual orientation on the basis of frequency and preference of homosexual activity. Dr. Churchill explores the sexual behavior of many cultures--Greek and Roman, ancient tribal and modern primitive, northern and southern European and American--and of many nonhuman species. He finds most of the problems of homosexual behavior today rooted in the general sex-negativeness of our culture. In this connection Dr. Churchill probes such religious ideas as original sin, circumcision, asceticism, and the sanctity of the family; and such legal dilemmas as entrapment, blackmail, and the denial of the right to assemble. Grounded in scientific principles, Homosexual Behavior among Males is a cogent argument for a positive, humanistic approach to sex which accepts the fact that no single pattern of sexual behavior can ever become the only one for all men."-- |
