And Simon and John the brother & he-surnamed them and Thaddæus, and 19 and Judas Iscariot, And he-came-down with them, and- 17 stood in the-plain, and the-company of-his disciples, and a-great multitude of-people out-of all Judæa and Jerusalem, and from the sea-coast of-Tyre and Sidon, which came tohear him, and to-be-healed of their diseases; and they that-were-vexed 18 with (oxλovμEVOLUTO) unclean spirits: and they-were-healed. And the whole 19 multitude sought to-touch him: for there-went virtue (dvvaus) out-of him, and healed them all. And he lifted-up his eyes on his 20 disciples, and-said, Blessed (μakapioi) be ye poor: for your's is the kingdom of-God. Blessed are ye that hunger 21 now: for ye-shall-be-filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye-shall F Matt. viii. 5, § vI. Mark iii. 19, §xI. John vi. 1, § xxvIII. MATT. MARK. LUKE vi. laugh. Blessed are-ve, when men shall- 22 But I-say unto-you which hear, Love your 27 Judge not, and ye-shall-not be-judged: 37 condemn not, and ye-shall-not be-condemned: forgive, (añoλvɛtɛ) and ye-shall-be-for given: give, and it-shall-be-given unto-you ; 38 good measure, pressed-down, (TEπIEσμEVOV) and shaken-together, (σeoaλevμevov) and running-over, (περεкXVνоμεvov) shall-mengive into your bosom. For with-the same measure that ye-mete-withal it-shall-bemeasured to-you-again. And he-spake a-parable unto-them, Can 39 the-blind lead (odnya) the-blind? shallthey-not both fall into the-ditch? The-dis- 40 ciple is not above his master: but every-one that-is-perfect (karnprioμevos) shall-be as his master. And why beholdest-thou the 41 mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine-own eye? Either how canst-thou say to-thy bro- 42 ther, Brother, let me-pull-out (apes eкßaλw) the mote that is in thine eye, when-thouthyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine-own eye? Thou-hypocrite, cast-out first the beam out-of thine-own eye, and then shalt-thou-see-clearly (diaße) topull-out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. For a-good tree bringeth not-forth corrupt 43 fruit; neither doth-a-corrupt tree bring-forth good fruit. For every tree is-known by his- 44 own fruit. For of thorns men-do-not gather figs, nor of a-bramble-bush gather-they (7pvywo) grapes. A good man out-of the good 45 treasure of-his heart bringeth-forth that which is good; and an evil man out-of the evil treasure of-his heart bringeth-forth that which is evil: for of the abundance (Tερioσɛvμaroc) of-the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call-ye me Lord, Lord, and do 46 not the-things which I-say? Whosoever 47 cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I-will-shew you to-whom he-is like: he-is like a-man which-built an-house, 48 and digged deep, (εσκαψε και εβαθυνε) and laid the-foundation on a rock: and whenthe-flood (nuμvpac) arose, the stream beatvehemently-upon (poσεрpηžεv) that house, and could not shake (oaλevoa) it: for it-wasfounded upon a rock. But he that-heareth, 49 and doeth not, is like a-man that-without a-foundation built an-house upon the earth; AFTER THE SERMON, JESUS ENTERS CAPERNAUM, AND HEALS THE SERVANT OF A CERTAIN CENTURION OF HIS SICKNESS. (1) MATT. viii. 5-13. (ch. viii. 4, § xxv, p. 2.) No. 75. Capernaum. MARK. LUKE vii. 1-10. NOW when he-had-end- 1 ed (ETλnpwoε) all his sayings in the audience (as Taç akoas) of-the people, heentered into Capernaum. And a-certain centurion's 2 servant, who was dear (εvTIμoç) unto-him, was sick, and-ready to-die. (nμɛɛ TEλEVTav.) And when-he- 3 heard of Jesus, he-sent unto him the-elders of-the Jews,(2) beseeching him that he would come and-heal (diaowoy) his servant. And 4 when-they came to Jesus, they-besought him instantly, (orovdaus) saying, That he-was worthy for-whom he -should-do (αξιος ᾧ παρεξει) this: for he-loveth our na- 5 tion, and he hath-built us a synagogue. Then Jesus went with them. 6 And when-he was-now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, (1) Diss. viii. p. 299, Vol. II.
