And all 47 that heard him were-astonished at his understanding and answers. And when-they-saw him, they- 48 were-amazed; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hastthou-thus dealt-with us? behold, thy father and-I have-sought thee sorrowing. And he-said unto 49 them, How is it that ye-sought me? wist-ye not that I must be about my Father's business? (εv τοις του πατρος μου) And they 50 understood not the saying which he-spake unto-them. And he-went-down with them, 51 and came to Nazareth, and was subject-unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. INTRODUCTION OF THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. JOHN.(1) No. 20. Jerusalem. JOHN i. 1-18. 1 IN the-beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and 2 the Word was God. The-same was in the-beginning with God. 3 All-things were-made by him; and without him was-not any4 thing made that was-made. În him was life; and the life was the 5 light of-men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended (karɛλaßɛv) it not. 6 There was a-man sent from God, 7 whose name was John. The-same came for a-witness, to bear-witness of (Ep) the Light, that all men 8 through him might-believe. He was not that Light, (ro pwc) but was sent to bear-witness of that 9 Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that10 cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world wasmade by him, and the world knew 11 him not. He-came unto his-own, (εiç Ta idia) and his-own (ot idiot) 12 received him not.
