MATT. i. 25.

And he called

his name JESUS.

LUKE ii.

13 And suddenly there-was with the angel a-multitude 14 of-the-heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to-God in the-highest, and on earth peace, good-will toward men.

15

And it-came-to-pass, as the angels were-gone-away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one-to another, Let-us-now go even-unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is-come-to-pass, which the Lord hath16 made-known unto-us. And they-came with-haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a man17 ger. And when-they-had-seen it, they-made-known-abroad the saying which was-told them concerning this 18 child. And all they that-heard it, wondered at thosethings which-were-told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and-pondered them 20 (ovμẞalovoa) in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all-the-things that they-had-heard and seen, as it-was-told unto them.

21

And when eight days(4) were-accomplished for-the-circumcising-of the child, his name was-called JESUS, which was-so-named of the angel before he was-conceived in the womb.

22 And when the days of-her purification according-to the law ofMoses were-accomplished, theybrought him to Jerusalem, to-present him (apaornoai) to-the 23 Lord; (as it-is-written in the-law of-the-Lord, every male that-openeth the-womb shall-be-called holy 24 to the Lord;) and to-offer a-sacrifice according to that which-is-said in the-law of-the-Lord, A-pair ofturtle-doves, or two young pigeons. 25 And, behold, there-was a-man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout (evλaßns) waitingfor the-consolation of-Israel: and the-Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it-was revealed (expnpaTíoμεvov) unto-him by the Holy Ghost, that-he-should-not see death, before he-had-seen the 27 Lord's Christ. And he-came by (ev) the Spirit into the temple: and when (kai Ev Ty) the parents brought-in the child Jesus, to-do for him after the custom of-the 28 law, then took he him-up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest-thou thy servantdepart in peace, according-to thy 30 word: for mine eyes have-seen 31 thy salvation (тo σwrηptov,) which

thou-hast-prepared before the-face of-all people; A-light to lighten 32 (εs añoкaλviv) the-Gentiles, and the-glory of-thy people Israel. No. 15, Bethlehem.

MATTHEW ii. 1-12.

1 Now when-Jesus was-born in Bethlehem of Judea in the-days of-Herod the king, behold, therecame wise-men from the-east to 2 Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that-is-born King of-the Jews? for we-have-seen his star in the east, and are-come to-worship him.

3 When-Herod the king had heard these things, he-was-troubled, and and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when-he-had-gathered all the chief-priests and scribes ofthe people-together, he-demanded of them where Christ should-be5 born. And they said unto-him, In Bethlehem of Judea for thus it-is-written by the prophet. 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of-Juda, art not the-least among the princes of-Juda: for out-of thee shall-come a-Governor that shallrule (Toμave) my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when-he-hadprivily called the wise-men, enquired of them-diligently (npɩ

ẞwσe Taр') what time the star appeared. And he-sent them to 8 Bethlehem, and-said, Go andsearch diligently for the youngchild; and when ye-have-found him, bring me-word-again, that I may-come and-worship him-also.

When they had-heard the king, 9 they-departed; and, lo, the star, which they-saw in the east, wentbefore them, till it-came andstood over where the young-child was. When-they-saw the star, 10 they rejoiced - with exceeding great joy. And when-they-were- 11 come into the house, they-saw the young-child with Mary his mother, and fell-down, and-worshipped him: and when-they-had-opened their treasures, they-presented unto-him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. And being-warned-of-God in a- 12 dream that-they-should-not return to Herod, they-departed into theirown country another way.

When he arose, he-took the young-child and his mother by-night, and departed into Egypt: and was 15 there until the death of-Herod that it might-be-fulfilled which-was-spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out-of Egypt have-I-called my son.(2)

Then Herod, when-he-saw that 16 he-was-mocked of the wise-men, was-exceeding wroth, and sentforth, and-slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from twoyears-old and under; accordingto the time which he-had-diligently-enquired of the wise-men. Then was-fulfilled that which- 17 was-spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, in Rama was-there- 18 a-voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be-comforted, because they-are not.
