Public School Athletic League of New York

The Public Schools Athletic League of New York | swimming, fencing, golf, tennis, hockey and footwas organized in 1903 by the late General George ball games. W. Wingate as its first president. On Dec. 31, 1904, the P. S. A. L. presented its first athletic program with a track meet in Madison Square Garden and has held meets every year.

The league's program for the past years has been devoted to the development of health, sportsmanship and good citizenship through athletics. More than 100,000 boys annually participate in its outdoor and indoor track meets, cross-country, baseball, basketball, handball, soccer football,

In the World War 98,785 of the New Yorkers who volunteered were found to have participated in P. S. A. L. activities. Half of the men in the famous 69th Regiment were New York School athletes.

The officials of the P. S. A. L. are William R. Crowley, president; Dr. Harold G. Campbell, vicepresident; Frederick D. Chambers, treasurer; Charles Gilman, assistant treasurer, and Dr. A. K. Aldinger, secretary.
