28. For the best Duet for piano and harmonium. Prize £5 5s.

Mr. E. H. Turpin stated that he had to announce with regret that he felt quite unable to award the prize for the best composition for a piano and harmonium duet. Only two compositions were sent in. One contained a great deal of originality and very clever thought, and contained many excellent combinations between the two instruments, but the technical errors were such that they could not give the prize. The second composition contained some work of much interest, but there was a lack of originality and some defects of workmanship. He regretted that under the circumstances they could not award the prize.

29. For the best Hymn Tune. Prize £5 5s.

Mr. Emlyn Evans gave the adjudication. There were 188 competitors, but it seemed to some of them that any slap-dash thing would do. The object of the Eisteddfod was not simply to give prizes, but to produce works of art that they could show to the world as belonging to Wales. He did not think any of the 188 was worthy of the five guineas prize, but he would divide the prize between Robert Jones and a competitor signing himself "Domine Salvum Bach." The successful competitors are Mr. David Lewis, Llanrhystyd, and Mr. W. H. Hunt, Birkenhead.

30. For the best Double Chant. Prize 1 IS, The words are left to choice of composer.

Mr. Emlyn Evans said that, of the 104 compositions received, only seven reached the first-class, and his co-adjudicator and himself considered that on the whole "Bute," in B flat, had won the prize. The composer of the successful anthem is Mr. David Lewis, Llanrhystyd, Cardiganshire.
