HE weather was warm; everybody was talk ing about going out of town; schools were breaking up; cabs and carriages were rattling down the streets with piles of luggage on the roofs, and happy faces looking out of the windows, and I was still at home and had not made up my mind where I should go for my holiday, or what I should do. Bright blue skies, and green trees, and merry birds, and wide-awake hats, and tourists' knapsacks, all set me longing to be off. So one afternoon I got a list of Murray's Guides, and thought of setting to work in earnest to fix where to go, and then proceed to find companions to accompany me. The list ran thus, "Handbooks to North Germany, France, Normandy, Denmark, Russia, Rome, Italy, Sicily, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Tim-" No, Timbuctoo wasn't there, but I have no doubt there will be handbooks for that pleasant spot soon.
