TENNESSEE When news came that shots from the Turkish forces on the shore at Smyrna were fired at, or across the bows of, a launch from the American cruiser Tennessee, there was uncertainty in this country as to what it meant: but Americans have learned to put their trust in the courage, sense of honor, and discretion of American naval officers, and they awaited with confidence further word from Captain Decker. Editorial comment on this incident appears in this issue THE BEECHER MEMORIAL BUILDINGS IN BROOKLYN Connected with Plymouth Church by the arcade shown at the right of the picture, the new educational buildings form a very pleasing architectural group; the large structure at the left is the club-house; the roof of the gymnasium is seen just over the arcade; farther on the building devoted to class-rooms will be erected. The statue of Mr. Beecher, by Gutzon Borglum, is placed near the center of the arcade. See editorial comment |
