Christianity in Thessalonica has never been quite extinct, since it was first planted there by St. Paul. It has at present 30 Christian churches, 40 Jewish synagogues, and 48 Mahomedan mosque It is now called by the Turks Salonichi.

This Epistle furnishes four convincing arguments of the Divine origin of Christianity:-viz. I. That many miracles were wrought by the first preachers of the Gospel. II. That they brought upon themselves all manner of present evils without the least prospect of worldly advantage. III. That the precepts delivered by them, were holy in their character, and thus worthy of God, and highly beneficial to mankind. IV. That Jesus was declared to be the Son of God, by his resurrection from the dead. It is thought by the best critics, that it was written before any other of the apostolical Epistles, from Corinth, about A. D. 54, and not from Athens, as the postcript states.
