WOULD Jove a Queen of Flow'rs ordain,

tion of this Elogy on the Rofe. Clitophon (in that Ro-
mancer) tells us it was fung by his Mistress at an Enter-
tainment.

Οπως τα ρόδα ΕρωτΘ φυτὰ· κὶ γ νέα ὡς ἐκεῖνΘ, καὶ ὑγρὰ ὡς αὐτὸς ὁ Ἔρως, καὶ χρυσοκομέσιν άμφω.. αὶ τ' ἀλλ ̓ αὐτοῖς ὅμοια· τὰ ῥόδα ἢ ἀκανθαν ἀντὶ βελῶν ἔχει τὸ πυρὶν ἀντὶ δάδων· τοῖς φύλλοις ἐπε τέρωται· χρόνον ἢ ἔτε Ἔρως, ἔτε ῥόδα οἶδεν. ἐχθρὸς Σὲ ὁ Θεὸς καὶ τῇ κάλλος ὀπώρᾳ καὶ τῇ ῥόδων ἐπιδημία.
