APPENDIX.

HYMNS FOR SCHOLARS OF

TENDER YEARS.

PRAYER.

Banish, my son, each vain desire,
Each trifling thought and care;
Ere thou to heavenly themes aspire,
And kneel in solemn prayer.

Oh! then when morn and evening bring The consecrated hour,

When thou before heaven's glorious King Dost wonted homage pour;

With filial awe and holy joy
Approach His lofty throne,
And with uplifted hand and eye
Make thy petitions known.

Ask Him in weakness to protect,
In danger to defend,

And still, should earthly friends neglect,
To be Himself thy friend.

PRAYER.

Whene'er our angry passions rise,

And tempt our thoughts and tongue to strife, To Jesus let us lift our eyes,

Great pattern of our Christian life.

Oh! how benevolent and kind,
How mild-how ready to forgive;
Be this the temper of our mind,
Be this the rule by which we live.

PRAYER.

My Father, when I come to Thee,
Let me not only bend the knee,
But with my spirit seek Thy face;
With earnest heart desire Thy grace.

I plead the name of Thy dear Son,
All He has said, all He has done;
I feel His love for me,
Who died from sin and set me free.

Oh! may

O Saviour guide me with Thine eye, My sins forgive, my wants supply; With favour crown my youthful days That all my life may speak Thy praise.

Thy holy Spirit, Lord, impart,
To stamp Thy likeness on my heart;
Let me obey Thy truth in love,
So shall I reign with Thee above.

PRAISE.

Lord, I would own Thy tender care,
And all Thy love to me;
The food I eat, the clothes I wear,
Are all bestowed by Thee.

Tis Thou preservest me from death,
And dangers every hour,

I cannot draw another breath
Unless Thou give me power.

My health, and friends, and parents dear, To me by God are given;

I've not a single blessing here

But what is sent from Heaven.

Such goodness, Lord, such constant care,

A child can ne'er repay;

Then let it be my daily prayer

To love Thee and obey.

DUTY TO GOD AND MAN.

Love God with all your soul and strength,
With all your heart and mind,
And love your neighbour as yourself;
Be faithful, just, and kind.

Deal with another as you'd have
Another to deal with you;
What you're unwilling to receive,
Be sure you never do.

LIFE.

He lives, who lives to God alone,
And all are dead beside;
For other name than God is none,
Whence life can be supplied.
