Banish, my son, each vain desire, Oh! then when morn and evening bring The consecrated hour, When thou before heaven's glorious King Dost wonted homage pour; With filial awe and holy joy Ask Him in weakness to protect, And still, should earthly friends neglect, PRAYER. Whene'er our angry passions rise, And tempt our thoughts and tongue to strife, To Jesus let us lift our eyes, Great pattern of our Christian life. Oh! how benevolent and kind, PRAYER. My Father, when I come to Thee, I plead the name of Thy dear Son, Oh! may O Saviour guide me with Thine eye, My sins forgive, my wants supply; With favour crown my youthful days That all my life may speak Thy praise. Thy holy Spirit, Lord, impart, PRAISE. Lord, I would own Thy tender care, Tis Thou preservest me from death, I cannot draw another breath My health, and friends, and parents dear, To me by God are given; I've not a single blessing here But what is sent from Heaven. Such goodness, Lord, such constant care, A child can ne'er repay; Then let it be my daily prayer To love Thee and obey. DUTY TO GOD AND MAN.
