Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 10, to leave out the word "before," and insert the word "by -(Mr. Solicitor-General)—instead thereof.-Question, "That the word 'before' stand part of the Clause,"-put, and negatived. Question, "That the word 'by' be there inserted,"-put, and agreed to. Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 18, to leave out the word “and,” and insert the word "or"-(Mr. Herbert)-instead thereof.-Question, "That the word 'and' stand part of the Clause,"―put, and negatived. Question, "That the word 'or' be there inserted,”—put, and agreed to. Another Amendment made, in page 1, line 18, after the word "defence," by inserting the words" or both "-(Mr. Herbert). Clause, as amended, agreed to. Clauses 2-5, agreed to. Clause 6. Amendment proposed, in page 4, line 17, after the word "court," to insert the words "by or "-(Mr. Solicitor-General).. Amendment proposed, in page 6, line 5, to leave out all the words from the word "does" down to the word "but," in line 7 inclusive-(Mr. Solicitor-General). Another Amendment proposed, in page 6, line 19, at the end of the line, to insert the following new subsection: This Act shall not apply in the case of an offence in relation to the non-repair or obstruction of any highway, public bridge, or navigable river, and the costs in any such case may be allowed as in civil proceedings as if the prosecutor or defendant were plaintiff or defendant in any such proceedings " --(Mr. Solicitor-General).—Question, "That those words be there inserted,"-put, and agreed to.
