The current curator of the Natural History Museum of Milan, Frederico Pezzotta began geological-mineralogical fieldwork in Madagascar in 1996 in collaboration with other institutions in Madagascar, Italy, and the USA. Several expeditions have continued the research that Pezzotta began 1994, while a student at at the University of Milan. To date he has carried out twenty-six research trips to the mineral rich island. Dr. Pezzotta has spent a total of twenty-nine months in Madagascar making geological-mineralogical surveys. In collaboration with local mining companies, he has visited classic sites and discovered new localities during his more than seven years of research on the island. The current status of these studies is presented in this monograph.
